Brandon Holmes’s perspective

The large MSTP class at Washington University is a rather unique feature.  With roughly 25 students per class and almost 200 students at all levels, the MSTP represents a large fraction of the medical and graduate student body. This provides the MD/PhD students with a distinct position to be a fundamental and important part of the institution. As such, the MD/PhD student body creates a strong community that upholds and promotes the physician-scientist philosophy. This not only makes the learning environment at Washington University ideal for MD/PhD trainees, but also ensures that the voice of the physician scientist is heard.
