The MSTP will offer 11 virtual interview sessions between October and January. Typically, nine applicants are invited for each interview session, which consists of an orientation on Thursday and full day of interviews on Friday. The types of interviews are as follows:

MSTP Committee interview

This 20-minute panel interview will focus on your research. Since the committee will direct the discussion, you should not prepare a talk or a presentation. No slides, handouts or use of the whiteboard is permitted.

Individual faculty interviews

A series of 30- to 45-minute interviews with faculty members you have selected. The format of these interviews will be a discussion of your research and the research being carried out by your interviewer. Each interviewer will provide the MSTP Committee with feedback.

School of Medicine interviews

A 30-minute closed file interview and a 45-minute open file interview with a faculty member from the School of Medicine Committee on Admissions (COA). You must also complete a standardized video interview in advance of the scheduled virtual interview day. If you have previously interviewed for an MD-only position at Washington University, you will not have a second medical school interview. Learn more about what to expect from the School of Medicine interviews.

MSTP wrap-up interview

A 30-minute follow-up interview at the end of the day with a member of the MSTP Committee.

Interview dates

The MSTP will interview candidates for the entering Class of 2024 on the following dates:

  • October (5/6) (12/13) (19/20) and (26/27)
  • November (2/3) and (9/10)
  • December (7/8) and (14/15)
  • January (4/5) (11/12) and (18/19)

Because all candidates must be interviewed by the MSTP Committee, we can only offer interviews on the above dates. Interviews are offered on a rolling basis, and we cannot guarantee that interview spots will be available on a given date. Therefore, early application is encouraged to ensure the choice of interview dates.

About the interview visit

We want to make the most of your virtual interview visit, so we can get to know you and you can get to know us. Beyond the interviews themselves, you’ll participate in an orientation with program leadership as well as informational panels with current students. These interactions allow you to discuss the program informally and learn more about St. Louis and the quality of life enjoyed by students in our program. Your interactions with current students are not part of the MSTP evaluation process.

The schedule for the interview visit is as follows:

Thursday:

  • 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: MSTP orientation with director Wayne M. Yokoyama, MD, and program leadership
  • 12:30-1:30 p.m.: Student panel
  • 1:30-4:30 p.m.: Block in which interviews may be scheduled

Friday:

  • 9 a.m.-4 p.m.: Interviews
