Research summary
My primary project thus far has been exploring the regulation of cell death by p53 in ischemia reperfusion injury (IRI) after heart transplantation. Prior studies have from our lab have demonstrated that p53 is necessary for recruitment of neutrophils to the graft following IRI. My goal has been exploring the mechanism for this and specifically which cell death pathways are affected. We aim to identify other targets that, through pharmacologic inhibition, could attenuate the effects of IRI and therefore improve graft function.
