Research summary
The Lavine lab previously discovered focal adhesion kinase (FAK) in cardiac resident macrophages (CRMs), highlighting its role in facilitating the interaction between CRMs and cardiomyocytes during adaptive remodeling. Since CRMs are known to be crucial for cardiac development, repair, and homeostasis, I became interested in the developmental aspects of this process. My rotation goal focused on understanding how FAK influences the recruitment of CRMs during development and their interactions with cardiomyocytes.
