Research summary
Cryptococcus neoformans is an opportunistic fungal pathogen with limited susceptibility to existing antifungal drugs. One approach to drug development is targeting the fungal cell wall, where specific hydrolases are responsible for synthesizing, organizing, and degrading carbohydrates. In this study, Cryptococcus mutants lacking cell wall hydrolases were phenotyped against current antifungal agents to assess changes in susceptibility. The findings provide insight into novel antifungal strategies aimed at compromising cell wall integrity.
