Research summary
My rotation project focused on investigating the molecular mechanisms by which SARM1 triggers neurodegeneration. SARM1 is an enzyme that cleaves NAD+ and activation drives the rapid loss of NAD+ which subsequently causes axon degeneration. The project worked to deduce the exact mechanisms by which SARM1 causes axon degeneration and how the SARM1 pathway can serve as a potential therapeutic target for neurodegenerative diseases.
