Research summary
For my rotation, I worked in the Pagliarini Lab on identifying proteins that carry exogenous CoQ10 from the outer mitochondrial membrane to the inner mitochondrial membrane, where it is used for respiration. My candidate protein was PRELID1, a known lipid transporter, and I tried to characterize its role in carrying CoQ10 using various techniques, including knocking out genes in cell lines using CRISPR-Cas9 and LC-MS proteomic assays. Working on this project taught me a great deal about gene manipulation and the analysis of protein output in cells that have been genetically manipulated.
