Research summary
Increasing evidence has shown that tumors interact with the nervous system whether that be through secretion of paracrine factors, interactions with the immune system, electrochemical neuron-tumor connections, and more. We study these interactions in pilocytic astrocytomas (PAs), the most common type of pediatric optic glioma. Our work aims to understand how neurotransmitters regulate tumor proliferation with the goal of utilizing these pathways for targeted therapies.
